Brush clearing cost estimator: goats vs. hand crew
Rough 2026 East County ranges. Goat herds usually have a minimum job size, so tiny lots often go to hand crews.
Don't know your acreage? Work it out in 30 seconds
- Count only the part that needs clearing, not the house, driveway or lawn. For an odd shape, add up a few rectangles.
- Want the whole lot size? Look up your address or parcel number on the free SanGIS Parcel Lookup Tool (how to use it). The County Assessor's property records page notes its maps show acreage for parcels of half an acre or more.

How we pick who gets your request
Goat grazing is a small, specialized trade, so we hold every operator to the same standard before we share any request:
- Insured: current general liability insurance, with a certificate we've seen.
- Contained and watched: portable fencing to keep the herd on your lot, and a herder on site or regular checks during the job.
- Water plan: they bring water or confirm what your site has before day one.
- Right fit: they serve your town and take jobs your size (many herds have a minimum).
- Track record: references or public reviews from past jobs.
- Hand crews: an active California contractor license when the job needs one. You can check any license at cslb.ca.gov.
If no operator that meets this standard serves your area, we'll tell you so rather than pass your request to someone who doesn't fit.
What happens after you send the form
- A person reads it. No automatic blast to a list.
- If you checked the consent box, we pass it to up to 3 operators or crews who serve your area and lot size. Never more than 3.
- They contact you by phone, text, or email, usually to ask about photos, access, water, and your inspection date, and to set up a look at the lot.
- You compare and choose, or choose no one. There's no fee and no obligation.
- Tell us how it went. If someone didn't show up or wasn't straight with you, they stop getting requests from us.

Questions
Do you own the goats?
No. We're a free quote-matching service. With your consent we pass your request to up to 3 local goat-grazing operators or brush-clearing crews.
How long do goats take to clear an acre?
It depends on herd size and brush. A large herd can clear an acre of grass and light brush in a day or two; dense chaparral takes longer. Ask each operator for an estimate.
Is the request free?
Yes. It's free and you don't have to hire anyone.
Will goats satisfy my fire inspection?
They can handle a lot of Zone 2 work. Inspections also look at the area right around the house, trees, and dead material, which usually need hand work. Ask your fire agency what they need to see.
Which areas do you cover?
East County San Diego, including El Cajon, Santee, Lakeside, Alpine, and Ramona.
